Amber Tatkenhorst, MSW – Licensed Clinical Social Worker Candidate | Online Therapy in Montana
Many people carry the weight of past trauma, and it can hold them back in ways that aren't always obvious. It may show up as difficulty in relationships, struggles with self-image, coping habits that no longer serve you, or a hard time ever feeling truly safe.
I want therapy to feel like a place where you can exhale. You can come as you are, without worrying about being judged, and we'll figure things out together, side by side. We'll move at a pace that feels right for you. Our work will combine mindfulness-based grounding to help calm your nervous system with practical cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) tools to help you reshape automatic thought patterns. Together, we'll work toward breaking old survival cycles, lowering your day-to-day stress, and responding to life with intention rather than survival instinct. Along the way, you'll build skills you can carry into your everyday relationships and life well beyond therapy.
Experience
I'm a Social Worker Licensure Candidate providing telehealth therapy to clients across Montana. I'm especially passionate about working with children and with people who have experienced trauma. I believe that trauma and difficult experiences can shape our beliefs and behaviors, but they don't have to define our future. I deeply value each client's dignity and autonomy, and I love helping people feel more connected to themselves and more confident in their ability to move forward.
I earned my Master of Social Work (MSW) from the University of Montana. During graduate school, I completed my practicum at Benefis Community Care, supporting older adults and individuals with disabilities through home- and community-based services. I also volunteered with CASA, providing supervised visitation for children and families. These experiences taught me to understand clients within the context of their relationships, environments, and lived experiences, and they shaped my commitment to a trauma-informed, compassionate, and strengths-based approach.
