Hi, I'm Maria Gantert, the therapist behind Lighthouse Behavioral Health in Montana. I've been doing this work for over 15 years, and I still think it's the most meaningful thing I get to do.

Why I Do This Work

I didn't grow up knowing exactly what job title I'd end up with, but I always knew what I wanted to do with my life: help people find their voice and find some peace along the way. From a young age, I was drawn to volunteer work and grassroots community engagement, showing up for people, especially the ones who'd had a hard time being heard. That instinct never really left me. It just eventually found its way into a career.

Becoming a therapist felt less like choosing a profession and more like finally having a name for something I'd been doing my whole life. My work today focuses primarily on trauma, anxiety, and depression, but underneath all of it is the same thing that's always mattered to me: helping people speak up for themselves, in whatever way that looks like for them, and helping them find their way back to some peace.

What matters most to me is that clients leave our work together not just understanding themselves better, but actually feeling confident and empowered to live their lives with fewer symptoms getting in the way, because they have real strategies they can reach for, not just insight sitting on a shelf. I want people to walk away knowing they can actually do something when things get hard, not just recognize what's happening to them.

How I Show Up in Session

My style is gentle, but honest. I'm originally from the Northeast, and people who know me joke that it shows. I’m told a bit of that directness comes through, softened by a lot of warmth. I approach sessions with clients the same way I show up with anyone in my life: with kindness, some humor when it fits, and honesty when it's genuinely helpful. You won't get performative positivity from me, and you won't get judgment either. You'll get someone who's genuinely in it with you.

Background and Training

I earned my graduate degree from the University of Maryland, Baltimore, and have spent my career since then working alongside people through some of the hardest chapters of their lives.

Life Outside the Office

I've lived a lot of places, born and raised in the Northeast, I've since traveled all over the country, and I've called Montana home since 2016. Outside of my practice, I'm a Wife, a Mom of two, and a dog Mom who's pretty sure the dog runs the house. Montana has become home in every sense, and I feel lucky to get to do this work in a community I genuinely love being part of.

Let's Work Together

If you're looking for a Montana therapist who will be honest with you, laugh with you when it fits, and never make you feel like you have to filter yourself, I'd love to be that person for you. Reach out whenever you're ready, I'll be here.
